WELCOME TO THE HAPPY!
THE HAPPY is an absurdist digital series about the misadventures of Par, a lovelorn and spiritually lost Indian-American who comes to Los Angeles in search of happiness only to become an oblivious savior to a diverse cross-section of Angelinos who think HE has all the answers.
writer | director | editor | actor
Born in Texas to Indian immigrants at the tail end of the Carter administration, Par Parekh zig-zagged across the country for most of his childhood, eventually graduating high school in New Jersey. After studying biology, philosophy, and film at Wesleyan University, Par worked in the Laboratory of Neurobiology and Behavior at The Rockefeller University, where he briefly fulfilled his ethnic destiny with a career in the sciences. A chance opportunity writing for Film Journal International eventually brought him back to filmmaking. His roles behind the camera — as director, writer, producer, editor, cinematographer — have been as diverse as the types of content he creates: from documentaries to narratives, shorts to features, art films to commercials, industrials for nation-states to promos for large media corporations, gritty run-and-gun to high-end fashion, Par is no stranger to visual storytelling by any means necessary.
Currently based in LA and Red Hook, Brooklyn, Par’s work has taken him all over the world, from Haitian disaster zones and New Orleans second lines to Himalayan peaks and Icelandic archaeological digs. His films have been official selections at the Tribeca Film Festival, SXSW, the LA Film Festival and others. He’s produced and shot short documentaries for the Haitian Government to present at the World Economic Forum at Davos. Par also produced and co-wrote Benh Zeitlin’s Glory at Sea, winner of the Wholphin Best Short Film Award at SXSW. Recently, he finished editing a feature-length documentary about Cameron Crowe's film Aloha, and produced a promotional short film for Don Cheadle’s directorial debut Miles Ahead. In addition, he has created promotional videos for such musical talents as Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Shuggie Otis, and Willie Nelson. His fashion clients include Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Vogue Germany, Anne Taylor, Eileen Fisher, Macy’s, and Target.
Par recently made his narrative comedy directorial debut with the short THE HAPPY, which premiered at SeriesFest in June 2019. He’s currently in post-production on his feature documentary debut Sister Úna Lived A Good Death. He is represented by Artists First.
